Edit: As /u/Historyguy81 points out, metal armor on vehicles and naval craft is of course not obsolete. I meant metal armors on humans.
I would argue that the metal armor on tanks and warships demonstrate that guns did not render them obsolete. However armored humans went into decline in the 1500s when the nature of fighting changed (in a european context) from elite aristocratic warriors (knights) to regimented and drilled professional armies.
