The Roman view of sex seemed to be somewhat more antagonistic than our modern perspective. However sex still seems to have a lot of "power" connotations in it. Was this a worldwide phenomena, independently present around the world, or is this an artifact of Roman culture.

Hello. As suspected, this question is too broad: it falls under the no "throughout history" questions rule, that is, it is essentially asking about attitudes for all cultures throughout all time.

If you can limit the scope to a particular region/culture or set of cultures (e.g. you're asking whether attitudes are a remnant of Roman culture, so possibly the scope could be Europe?) then do re-post here. Or to /r/AskSocialScience, which is perhaps a more appropriate subreddit (Note that they will likely also require the question to be narrowed). If you'd prefer to keep the question as-is, then I'd suggest /r/AskAnthropology.
