I was wondering if there were maps available of all Spanish and pirate shipwrecks along the East coast of the US and Spanish Main, or anyone knew the history of where these ships crashed.
All the information I have found seems to be laden in inaccuracy and romanticism and the maps I've found are questionable.
I'm not sure if a good map of all of those exists.
Also, do you have a particular time period of interest?
One problem you might be having is, besides the issues you mentioned (likely an issue created by what happens when you have treasure hunting involved), depending on what kind of vessels and what period you are looking for, you could be dealing with hundreds upon hundreds of sites - a number of which have been dug, many more looted for treasure by treasure hunters, and some simply marked as being there but never explored due to conditions of the wreck.
Honestly, this kind of question seems more fitting of r/Archaeology or r/NautiWetArchaeology than r/AskHistorians.
