The bronze cuirass was never replaced by Linothorax.
Several forms of body armour (thorax) were in use during Alexander’s period, including metal and leather.
The Linothorax was probably favoured by the Macedonians due to its lightweight, relative cheap cost and its ease of manufacture. (It may also have been a more comfortable option for an army on the move in a hot climate)
Based on the assumption that it was literally a “linen torso” , an amour made exclusively from layers of glued linen, then modern evidence shows that this is an effective defence against period weapons.
But its actual construction is unknown.
Linothorax was gradually replaced by metal amour by the end of the Hellenistic period, probably due to the increased power of bows and improvement in arrow heads. It was was no longer an effective defence.
