in England in 1894 if you did an important job (like say were PM or a high court judge or something) and you were an opium addict, would anybody mind so long as you were high functioning?
As a follow up question, how long was it between the raise in popular of opium and the general public being aware that it probably wasn't too great of a substance (or at least closer to how it's viewed today)?
