Germany did not exist as a unified country until 1871. The 21 (or 23 not sure) entities that united generally had a poisonous relationship with France dating back to Napoleon, and a very good relationship with England. From 1871 onwards, Germany maintained an excellent relationship with Great Briton until the Germans began to build a navy that threatened GB's position. The relationship with France remained poisonous until after 1945. The relationship between Germany and Turkey was also very close until after WW1. On the other hand, Germany's relationship with Austria-Hungary and Russia was all over the map. Sometimes allies, sometimes enemies. The relationship with the United States was also variable. Kaiser Wilhelm II hated the "capitalist greedy" Americans, while the people of the United States (particularly in the upper mid-west) were pretty pro-German. Germany's (and Prussian) relationship with the unfortunate territory that is now Poland was also pretty difficult. I would love to hear more about the German - Austria-Hungary relationship.
