Say I'm walking down some street, drunk as a skunk, and I bump into an officer. Would the police fine me? Arrest me? What exactly would happen?
And are size of punishments the same as today's "Marijuana Prohibition," like the back in the day I would get 500 dollar fine and a month in prison for being drunk vs. today, I would get the same for being high. Did they have brethelyzers back then to accurately gauge the blood pressure, and would that take into account on what punishment you get or was it a one punishment fits all kind of thing?
Its important to note that drinking was not illegal due to prohibition. The constitutional amendment made the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol illegal, not its consumption. And there were exceptions where people could make wine and beer at home for personal consumption. Also whiskey was often prescribed as a medicine by doctors.
Just as there is now, there were local ordinances against being drunken in public but that would have varied from community to community.
