During the Middle Ages (say, 700 CE - 1450 CE) when and where in Europe (including Turkey) would you find the highest quality of life for a "peasant."

I'm sure "peasant" is a loaded term whose meaning changes throughout history, but the general meaning is what I'm getting it. In Europe, during the time when Feudalism was really kicking, where did the farming class have it best?

I'm thinking in terms of quality of life, not just personal freedom (although that would be a factor).

Considering how important "personal freedom" is into the factoring of quality of life for many theoretical definitions, can you provide your definition for "quality of life?"

I say this with the caveat, that attempting to limit a definition to exclude a commonly accepted of facet, smells slightly of political soapboxing.
