How were mirrors made before modern mirrors but after metallic mirrors

by rossm90

I know some mirrors were made from bronze and other metals but what did they make them out of before modern methods?

The only real difference between modern mirrors and mirrors in antiquity is that instead of having a flat sheet of polished metal, the metal is plated onto a sheet of glass. The best answer I can give about an intermediate form is that to produce the coating, they used to use amalgams of mercury and either tin or silver, whereas nowadays the mercury is left out and the metals are applied directly.
