This image on Wikipedia suggest that the Eastern part of Arabia was non-Semitic in the first century, CE.
Taking this image face value, do we know who lived in Eastern Arabia in this time period? Were there "successor cultures" to the Sumerians? Was there an Iranic intrusion into Eastern Arabia?
While I am by no means an expert on this subject, I believe Aramaic was a group of Semitic dialects. I think these people were the Assyrians.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
