How common were German public dissenters of the Nazi regime? How were they viewed/treated by other members of the public and by the government?

I am aware of internal attempts to assassinate Hitler, the murders of political opponents prior to the war but how vocal was any criticism of the regime from ordinary Germans? Did it become more pronounced once the Germans started to get pushed back by the Allies?

I think what you are looking for is something like the White Rose movement:

They were a group of students and their professor who anonymously passed out anti-Nazi leaflets in 1942-43, they were eventually discovered by the Gestapo and many of its members executed. One of the executed, Sophia Scholl, is a hero in Germany today for her resistance to the regime.
