I'm simply curious if this exists in other societies, but underpinning this question is a my curiosity related to the fact that it's remarkable in the US that African Americans are descendants of slaves and we all live together now which is just so bizarre in a lot of ways (beyond just persistent repression). But U.S. safety-net and social investment is shamefully bad, leaving so much of AA community in desperate conditions. I conjecture that the spirit of the AA people combined with the American can-do attitude, bolstered by the meager social investment and church/charity support, has propelled AA people to existing successes. But I wonder how this landscape would be different if US social investment were as robust as EU countries, even Scandinavian. Perhaps if another example exists, we could gain insight into this question.
