I'm currently reading 1491 and am fascinated by it so far. I know other "popular" history books have many faults, and I was wondering how well accepted the view of the pre-Columbus Americas presented in 1491 are. In addition, are there other quality books that go into more depth about the different cultures of the pre-Columbus Americas?
It's a pretty solid survey of the current state of knowledge on the subject, but bear in mind that Mann is basically a science journalist (one of the best in my opinion) and it is accordingly intended for a general audience rather than the technical reader.

For your second question, we actually have a very excellent introductory section on Mesoamerica on our bookslist and I think a few other books on the Andes and North America in there.
EDIT: Oh, and of course if you want even more further reading, you can always look at the bibliography of 1491. In general, if you read a book on a topic and want to go more in-depth, the bibliography is usually a good place to start.
