I would like to elaborate and ask about 2 categories of "importance of race" -
(1) the socio-economic element, rates of academic performance, graduation, college attendance, arrest, etc. vs. equivalent White peers, and
(2) the psychological/cultural issue of being the only black kid in the room much of the time, yet raised by parents whose education was largely segregated before college.
If I had elder siblings, they would be the age of this theoretical teenager (though not Black), and I grew up in the Dallas area. Also, Dallas has lots of immigration, so a disproportionate number of middle class people of African descent may be 1st or 2nd generation Americans - double bonus points to anyone who can address that!
