Whenever I try to find information about "architecture from X historical period" I always find information/really awesome pictures of palaces, religious buildings, and soforth, but rarely very much about regular people's houses. Hence my question.

The kind of information I'm looking for includes:

• what kind of building materials people used (and how well they kept out the elements.)
• whether they had separate rooms for sleeping, eating, cooking, etc.
• whether/what kind of furniture they had for the above-mentioned activities.
• the plumbing situation (i.e. was there any/what did they do instead?)
• who would have lived there (i.e. parents and children? extended family? multiple families sharing a home?)
• how much discrepancy was there between "regular" homes and the homes of the wealthy/ruling class? To put another way - did this time and place have palaces/villas and huts/shacks, and not much in between? Or was there more variety than that?
• anything else interesting you can think of.
