Sorry if this has been asked before, i tried searching for it but i wasn't even sure how to word it.
Anyway I want to know when people were able to start creating 3d looking images on a 2d surface. For example when you think of more primitive images you may think of cave paintings, or of the images on Greek urns or the flat 'walk like an Egyptian' pose.
I would like to know if this was something that was limited by the medium or by the lack of development in the skill, or if the 'flat' images were more easily made permanent, or for any other reason.
