Reddit, was the Gregorian calender referenced since year 1? In other words, were people in the first centuries aware and willing to follow the timeline?

I find the passage of time in reference to centuries very interesting, I'm wondering if people knew of this new calender since its creation or if it eventually dawned on them hundreds of years later.

The Gregorian calendar wasn't introduced until 1582 (by Pope Gregory XIII). In 1 AD, most were using the Julian calendar, put into effect in 45 BC. The Julian and Gregorian calendars are very similar, differing by only 13 days.
