I guess what I want to know is if he was a cruel person in an age where war and expansionism was more common? Did he condone torture, treat prisoners poorly, or have "dishonorable" practices? How is he viewed now by most Europeans, and particularly French people?
And with all that is said in our FAQ that /u/Searocksandtrees wonderfully provided, if you have any follow ups I'll be more than willing to answer, but generally I'll say that Napoleon didn't know how to be a diplomat but was an okay person overall.
