I just finished Alison Weir's book "The Life of Elizabeth 1" what else should I read to get a better understanding of this time period? Speically her relationship with King Henry VIII and Bloody Mary?
Though I haven't finished it yet, I'm really liking "Tudors" by Peter Ackroyd so far. It's an enjoyable read, and he has a great style.

There is a book by Diarmaid MacCulloch, English historian and an authority on the Reformations and Christian history, called Thomas Cranmer: A Life. Thomas Cranmer, as you know, was the Archbishop of Canterbury during the first part of the English Reformation. He's responsible for the basic structures of the Church of England. He was eventually "offed" by Queen Mary 1st who returned England, for a time, to Catholicism. Anyway, I have actually not read that particular book but I've read his book on the Reformations and it was superb...very scholarly. MacCulloch is great, check out his other books.
