I've often wondered how the Harlem Renaissance of the early 1900s was able to produce such a wealth of culture and intellectual discourse... Only to completely fall apart after 1930 and never manage to right itself again.
What happened that Harlem was once a mecca of culture for black people in the US, whereas nowadays it's considered one of the poorest and most worst areas of the nation (subjectively if not objectively).
Have you been to Harlem recently? It's not even close to being one of the worst places in NYC, let alone one of "the worst areas of the nation" (what does "worst" even mean here exactly?) especially considering the increasingly bourgeois west side.
