In such scenarios Berlin had no immediate strategic value, especially for the Warsaw Pact. Not sure if you know the map of this time, Berlin was already encircled and was deep in GDR territory. NATO obviously had nothing there which could be considered important to the war effort. The wall itself was just that, a simple wall which provided no defense against GDR forces ( belonged obviously to the GDR). The purpose of the wall was to stop GDR citizen from fleeing the country and not to keep the West contained. ( another smaller aspect was keeping spies out )

The Cold war was very long and attack plans for both sides varied a lot and were adjusted to new changes in technology, tactics or just general situation.

Despite differences in details, most Warsaw Pact plans had the same common strategy. Strike immediatly with ground troops and overwhelm the NATO armies which were stationed in western Germany. Either advance to the Rhine or even strike deep into France.

GDR and polish troops would head directly into West Germany and Denmark. Czech troops would advance through Bavaria to France. Hungary Troops would invade Austria and head for the vital parts of Italy ( northern Italy).

These attacks were generally planned to be supported by nuclear attacks. The plans for these attacks are pretty unsetteling since they focused on hitting major cities with the intention to disrupt the political system and order. The UK was a major target for nukes but pretty much every country was considered a target including non NATO countries. Even small countries like Denmark were expected to get hit by several nukes.

The plans expected very high losses for the Warsaw pact army, it was expected to lose 50% of the troops to tactical NATO nukes within the first days. The troops in the first lines which would take the brunt of the tactical nukes were expected to only reach one goal before the radioation would incapacitate them, they were not expected to get tasks assigned after that

edit: It should be noted that the actual plans for WWIII szenario are not all known to public at least not for all involved countries. The plans from the Polish GDR and Czech armies were revealed after the cold war ended for instance but the plans of the Sovjet Union were not.
