Germany surrendered before the first Atomic Bomb was ready to use.

There was a great reluctance to drop it on Europe, even if Germany did surrender beforehand. Too many Americans had heritage there at the time and it was deemed imprudent in terms of policy. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true. Otherwise we would have locked everyone with German heritage up in camps too. Not Americas greatest moment.
