What was the state of Rome when Alexander the great was conquering all around him? Why didn't Alexander ever invade Rome?

Hey there, here is a similar question that got answered about a year ago.

Alexander Died in 323bce. In this year Rome was in the middle of the 2nd Samnite War that lasted from 326-304bce. In 323 Rome may have had the upper hand in the conflict. but two years later, in 321bce, the Caudine Forks happened and Rome sued for peace. Here is the best map I have found. The Red and Dark Red are probably close to the territory of Rome in 323.
