From what I have read there was very little contact between the two following the Conquest. Quebec largely clung to an agricultural and Church oriented way of life whereas France embarked on the path towards modernization and republicanism.

I apologize for not providing the source, as I cannot recall it off the top of my head, but there was an attitude among the clergy of Quebec around the time of the French Revolution that Quebec was the 'real' France. By this was meant that 'real' French values were such things as Church, family, and Crown, not liberty, equality and fraternity.
