Yes. I don't have the exact figure but in the elections of 1930's you can see the communists gaining ground with the Nazis.

However a couple of things were working against the communists: 1, Stalin had forbid them from allying with the socialists against the Fascists. 2, The Nazi's were really good at propaganda. They were the first to drop leaflets out of planes and Hitler was more charismatic than any of the communist leaders 3, Nazi's appealed to German culture more than Communists. Although before WW1 the Reichstag (German parliament for simplicity sake) had one of the highest socialist percentages among the great powers, communism and socialism was seen as a kind of scourge. Recent socialist reforms left many workers earning the same as the middle class which pissed them off. Then a whole bunch of shit happened (too much for me to bother explaining. If you want to know more just google around about the fall of the Weimar government after 1929 and Burning) but basically the socialist party failed to control the government so then the lower classes hated them for failing too. Basically Nazism seemed more nationalistic than communism and a return to the glory days of Germany.

To summarize: shit was going down in Germany and the conventional government forms failed so people were looking to more radical party's for change but Nazism had an edge.
