Not what you are asking, but at the end of 15th century Joan de Canyamars, a peasant, a squatter, tried to kill the Catalan King Ferdinand, in Barcelona.

He was captured and tortured, parts of body cut and so on, in different squares around the city. Last thing was extracting his heart from his back. Then the body was thrown on the contryside, stoned and burned.

So, it doesn't talk about the ribs cut and spread, but to extract the heart throught the back you must first cut the ribs, no other way.
