I'm a discussion with another Redditor over Facism and Nazism not being the same thing. With regards to the original Nazi movement and the traditional understanding of Fascism, how were they similar and different?

I was taught they're opposites on the left right scale, the other redditor offered some information from Wikipedia that suggested they're both fascism. So dear experts, what does history say?

I am the other redditor. For reference, the discussion we were having can be found here. I argue that Naziism was essentially an offshoot of Italian fascism rather than its opposite, and that both are properly classified as far-right totalitarian ideologies.
