I was just looking at this post and noticed a bird clutching a Swastika in its talons. I'm curious why this exists - as I've seen it in quite a bit of Nazi equipment.
The eagle in general has been part of the German coat of arms since the Holy Roman Empire (on and off). The Nazi Party (NSDAP) adopted an eagle on top of the swastika presumably in reference to that, and many of the places (e.g. coinage) that used to just have eagles got the eagle+swastika update after 1936 or so when they formally changed the symbol of the German republic to be the Nazi version of the eagle.
The eagle is a symbol of Imperial Power. Examples are the Aquila of the Roman Empire; the Imperial Eagle of the First French Empire; and the Reichslader-- which was originally a symbol of the Holy Roman Empire. The Imperial Eagle used by Nazi Germany during the so-called Third Reich (i.e. Third Empire) was called the Parteiadler.
Then again I am by no means an expert, but correct me if I am wrong.
