Surely there is nothing stopping anybody creating a new subreddit for anything.

However I'm not too sure about how useful or interesting such a subreddit would be. The time frame that could be covered by living memory would not extend too far back historically speaking and very few personal anecdotes are going to be verifiable or provide insight into this period that could not be better served by other sources.

Having said that if anyone wants to know my stories of how my Granddad fought and lost in the Spanish civil war and then joined a circus, or which Classicists get drunk and dance badly at conferences let me know.

r/historyblogs would be the best place for this if the moderators there will allow it, that's already accepting of self-made content and non-academic stuff.

Little unclear here - just any anecdote from your life? Only ones that involve history in some way - e.g. "I just looked at some cool manuscripts at the British Library"? Or anecdotes that may be historically interesting - e.g. "I saw the planes hit on 9/11?"

Not in favor. The use of anecdotes - marked as such - in the support of verifiable information is useful, but a separate subreddit does not seem warranted. One of the beauties of this subreddit is that the information HAS to be supported by sources.

I'm not sure. I suppose that could fulfill a role, but I'd like see the anecdote rule here slightly (stressing that) relaxed than a new subreddit splitting up information. Obviously, an anecdote is a different kind of information than we're really looking for here, but I think they're more or less fine when tempered and balanced by the kind of information more directly relevant in this sub.
