This won't be historically accurate, but, I was a History major, if that counts:
Every year since I was born, my family traveled to the Outer Banks, North Carolina once a year, where we rented a beach house in Hatteras. And, every year, we would take the 30min ferry ride to Ocracoke Island.
I was always a history buff, even as a young kid. I quickly became obsessed with pirates, after reading and learning about Edward Teach and his history with the Diamond Shoals of the Outerbanks. The great sloop Queen Anne's Revenge, losing British pirate-hunters in the narrow channels and local shoals, with its swift speed and shallow-draft hull.
I thought it was the coolest shit ever. I had pirate Playmobils and Legos, and constantly imagined Blackbeard himself, fuses in his beard, smelling of booze and gunpowder, with cutlasses at the ready and four flintlock pistols on his belt.
And, after dying a heroic death, the pirates' headless body swam, circling around Maynard's ship, before being swallowed by the sea.
