Serbia scrambled to draw up an answer to the Austro-Hungarian ultimatum up to the last hours before the deadline set for a response. Of the the ten demands made by its stronger neighbor, Serbia accepted only two as written: prevention of the illicit traffic of weapons and explosives across the border and punishment of customs and border officers involved in said traffic, and a commitment to inform Vienna as soon as any of the above were actually put into effect.
