They hadn't mastered the distillation of alcohol yet, so their perfumes were mostly oil based. You would probably notice a base of linseed, sesame, almond or olive. The "classic" Egyptian scent had additions of myrrh, resin, and cassia. If the wearer considered the scent too strong, it was diluted with a bit of wine. Another popular scent included a mixture of cardamom, myrrh, sweet rush, honey, wine, and balsamum seed. You might also expect to smell lily, cinnamon, rose, and other familiar scents.
