While exploring my family history I was able to trace back to an ancestor who came over with William the Conqueror and worked as his constable. I thought some cosplay might be a fun way to get in touch with this part of my heritage. What might he have worn? Would he have been armed? Are there any good resources for historically accurate costume from this time period?
For historically accurate cosplay, why don't you consider something from the [Bayeaux tapestry?] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayeux_Tapestry#Reliability) It's generally considered a reliable, pictoral description of the Battle of Hastings from the 1070s or so. It should have a large number of figures you could choose from on it, and the captions give some context as to what figure is what. I don't know if there are any constable's per se, but you could look at the various Norman military figures (I believe "constable" was a military office at the time) and choose one that is practical for cosplay. Good luck!
