I frequently find myself clueless about certain Christian traditions and where Christianity and different denominations actually stemmed from and how this all relates to Judaism and later Islam. Also what's the deal with those 12 Israelite Tribes? I've exhausted Youtube documentaries and conducted a few rudimentary Google searches only to stumble upon subjective articles clearly written with a religious agenda in mind. I'd appreciate a purely historical perspective on Abrahamic religions.
Thanks in advance.
Pagan Christianity by Frank Viola and George Barna is an interesting read into the origins of many Christian traditions and how they come from pagan origins.
Turning Points by Mark A. Noll is another good one on the evolution of Christianity. The first section deals heavily with the split from Judaism. It's a pretty easy read. 1st or 2nd year undergrad level.
What exactly are you enquiring about the 12 tribes? They're based on the 12 sons of Jacob. Not sure if that is what you are looking for though?
Can't help you out with Islam. I have read some interesting books, but I don't have any in my library to cite or recommend unfortunately.
