I had a conversation with someone over at /r/ military who said there was a post about Rudel awhile back, where people claimed (with sources) that Rudel didn't really destroy as many targets as his service record claims. And that the Nazi's embellished the amount of targets he destroyed for propaganda purpose's. My understanding was that the German military was honest when it came to individual soldier's kill claim's and didn't inflate numbers or totally make them up, like the Russians often did.
