Is there a course / video series / book series / documentary series / etc. that does a good overview of human history from the rise of civilization to modern times? Across the whole world. Preferably chronologically.
Just very general things like
I love reading about history, but sometimes I have a hard time putting specific time frames into context as far as what is going on in the world at that time.
Have you watched 'History of the World in Two Hours?'
Rand McNally makes a very general and chronological wall chart. It was made in the 30's and is a little dated but is a very interesting way to visualize 4000 years.
John Green (of Fault in our Stars fame) and his brother run the crashcourse youtube channel. Their first world history series is pretty much exactly what you are looking for.
They are aimed towards an American high school demographic but are very effective in producing an entry level, 'crash course' on major world events, people etc.
