The Schutzstaffel was a paramilitary organ of the nazi party. It was headed by Heinrich Himmler and was responsible for many of the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany during WWII and the Holocaust. There were 3 main wings of the SS: the Allegeine SS which was the most numerous branch, the Totenkopfverbände SS which ran the extermination and concentration camps, and the Waffen-SS which was the armed branch and fought with the Wehrmacht (Nazi Germany's military
