I picked the Space Race as my topic but my professor said it was too broad. I will be going to her for some options but I was just wondering what you guys might say.

"The space race" -- whatever that is -- would take hundreds of pages to come close to covering even slightly well.
Pick a part of the space race. For example, look at accidents, or rocket design, or space capsule design, or legends (the US pen/Soviet pencil,) products derived from the Apollo program, or the reasons for the location of NASA facilities, or the people who ran the launches, the political reasons for the race to the moon, the American or Soviet public reaction to Sputnik, etc., etc.
