Who was intended to view the Parthenon?

Was the Acropolis intended for the public, to teach the mythology of Athens? Or did it have a different purpose?

I'll wait for an actual ancient historian to answer your question authoritatively, but it's worth pointing out (because it might help clarify what you're asking) that the Acropolis and the Parthenon are not the same thing. The Parthenon is a large temple within the Acropolis, which itself is an ancient citadel/walled city within Athens. ("Acropolis" as a noun can refer to many ancient citadels.)

There are several famous monuments/shrines/sacred spaces within the Acropolis, including the Parthenon.
