I have seen some "sniper armor" in the Imperial War Museum in London last week. I could provide a picture tomorrow after work but basically it was apparently a leather robe with only the room for mouth and eyes free. The robe itself was covered in different colors and basically looked like a raincoat. Reading the texttable near that it said the robe was important for the sniper to cover himself and not to protect him. I do hope somebody with more knowledge can answer this question as I am interested in the question, too
