The form of history writing that approaches something like complete subjectivity is chronology.

Nearly everything else is filtered through various linguistic, cultural, and ideological lenses. Although these lenses can pose problems, I would postulate they create a more constructive relationship with the past than a recitation of names, dates, and places.
