When the Nazis would raid synagogues in Bohemia and Moravia, anything that they thought could possibly be of value was sent to Prague. These included such things as Torah scrolls, embroidery, gold and silver items, and other Judaica. In Prague was the Jewish Museum, which had been founded in 1906 and was declared by the Nazis as the Jüdisches Zentralmuseum (Jewish Central Museum). It was intended to display the relics of a murdered people, with the goal of amassing the spoils of the Holocaust and displaying the superiority of the Aryan race. Jewish scholars were tasked by the Nazis to evaluate, catalog, and organize these items, and they even put on exhibits for SS officers. By the end of the war, the museum archives had grown to over 100,000 items. This museum still exists (though, obviously, without the Nazi ideology), and the collection can still be seen in Prague.
