Henry VIII did not really create the Anglican Church as this only really means the church of England, which originates with the spread of christianity to the british isles. However Henry VIII did separate the church of England from papal authority as a result of the Pope's refusal to grant an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. (among other grievances, but this was the primary reason)

In the northern parts of England, an uprising of dissenting Catholics occurred in the Linconshire revolt and another originating in Yorkshire called the Pilgrimage of Grace. Many of the leaders of these results were hanged and they were largely unsuccessful. However, some demands led to changes in policy within the Anglican church.
