Reptile like humanoids with the ability to imitate humans come from the earlier 20th century SF/Horror with authors like HP Lovecraft/Clark Ashton Smith. Wikipedia puts the fictional Reptilians down to an author, Robert Howard in a story called "The Shadow Kingdom". But nobody took this as anything other than a story.
Perhaps the conspiracy came from the SF/Horror B-movies of the fifties through early sixties and the communist scares that gave rise to the whole "hidden aliens amongst us" thing? This is what was suggested by many including "Anti-Communism and Popular Culture in Mid-Century America" By Cyndy Hendershot?. At this point we knew about rockets, the bomb and the possibility of aliens. Add in the McCarthy era paranoia and no doubt some believed that the aliens were actually among us.
The main proponent at the moment is David Icke, but I have no idea when this first got full conspiracy status.
Can someone with a background in religion explain how there is a connection between the modern "lizard people" conspiracy, and the original Gnostic myths from the third and forth century Palestine? I recall there being a decent amount of correlation but can't recall the sources.
There are the mysterious Ubaid lizard statues that we pulled out of ancient ruins in the extreme east of Turkey. They're thought to be around 6,000 years old. Nobody is really sure what they are since they show things like lizard humanoid woman suckling lizard babies, but most think they are religious icons of a snake god. It's good nightmare fuel if nothing else.
David Icke is the main proponent of the reptilian agenda in his early years he claimed he was the son of god after getting laughed off tv he went on to write books about conspiracy theory related things at first he wrote about legitimate theories but then started writing about the reptilian agenda. sorry but anyone that claims to be the son of god loses all credibility with me, he gives conspiracy theorists a bad name.
