Note that the Arabic, Greek, and Mongolian scripts all descend from Phoenician

From what I understand, Greek, Arabic, Mongolian (and thereby also Germanic runes, Latin, etc) all descended from Phoenician which descended from Egyptian Hieroglyphics... Which came about after, and was probably influenced by, Sumerian written language. Chinese was developed independently however.
