Hey all,
So I have been doing a lot of reading / research on the context from which ISIS/ISIL formed. But every step I take back always unravels more events and it's all getting a bit confusing.
So far I have gone as far back as the end of WW1 and the division of the Ottomon Empire, particularly the British Mandate of Iraq and the French mandate of Syria.
Can anyone help me make sense of the timeline from then to now?
EDIT: I found this article explaining the issues in some detail. Can anyone chime in with verification or other research I ought to read?
hi all. just a reminder to potential respondents of this subreddit's "20 year rule" against current affairs: kindly restrict any timelines and discussions of events/conditions to pre-1994 only. thanks!
I'd highly recomend reading David Fromkin's A Peace to End All Peace: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Creation of the Modern Middle East.
