I just finished Death of a King by Tavis Smiley over the weekend. I never realized how little I knew about Dr. King until I picked up that book. So much detail that I had no idea about.
Now I'm looking for something new. So make your suggestions, please...
Have you seen our booklist? All sorts of suggestions from flaired users. :)
If you're interested in the First French Empire, Napoleon's Wars by Charles Esdailes is a fantastic chronology of the diplomatic and economic history of the era, without delving too deeply into the military side of things.
J.david markham makes great books about the napoleonic wars.
Since you just finished a monograph about Dr. King may I suggest Radio Free Dixie: Robert F Williams and the Roots of Black Power by Timothy Tyson. It is a fantastic biography of Robert Williams and the Monroe chapter of the NAACP. It tackles issues such as black patriarchy, problematizes the traditional teleology of the civil rights movement, and is all around a fantastically written monograph.
