Why did the Ottomans want to take Baghdad?

Well, for a long time Baghdad was the center of Islamic culture and science, and one of the largest cities in the world. Although its golden age was ended when it was sacked by the Mongols in 1258, it was still a major city, and definitely worth controlling. The Ottomans were also simply an expansionist empire, and a city like Baghdad would necessarily fit into the plans of any Middle Eastern empire.
