My great uncle was an American GI, and fought in Europe during WWII. When he returned to the US he brought this nazi Jacket and hat with him.

In any event, He gave these two items to my dad, who was a boy at the time. Recently my dad passed away, and I inherited them. As such, I was trying to find out what kind of uniform it was.
There is a name (I think that's what it is?)
...and some numbers on the inside that can be seen the third picture, that might be a clue?
Anyway, i have NO IDEA, so help is appreciated! I looked around the internet, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any idea? it seems like a nice wool uniform, so perhaps an officer's uniform?

p.s. NO i'm not some neo-nazi, or nazi-lover. The jacket and hat was given to our family by am American who was fighting AGAINST the nazis !!!
p.s.s. and yes, i know you are *supposed" to capitalize "nazi" but I just can't bring myself to so that, screw them!

It's the Waffenrock (literally 'arms coat', the more formal uniform coat) of the lowest rank (Soldat - 'soldier', or rather Kanonier, 'cannoneer', since the name of the lowest rank was dependent on the troop type) in the artillery troops (I'm colourblind - but this looks like pure red). That's why it is such nice quality, these coats were only worn to formal occasions, on parade, awards ceremonies and the like. It would not have been worn in the field or during day-to-day duties. The cap also belonged to that kind of formal outfit.
This outfit might never have been worn by a German soldier, since it is missing the unit insignia that would otherwise be found on the shoulderpads, which would allow identification of the unit (or they have since been removed).
