During the Cold War, a number of books discussing a hypothetical war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact were written, such as The Third World War by John Hackett and Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy.
Where there any similar books by writers in the USSR? Or did they emphasize the Second World War more? Would the publication of such a book be possible considering the USSR's political climate at different times during the Cold War?
I don't have the expertise to answer this question in depth, but for an interesting source document, you should check out this Soviet cartoon adaptation of Ray Bradbury's There Will Come Soft Rains. It shows the aftermath of a nuclear war.
